Sumner Lipman is the founding partner of Lipman,
Katz & McKee, P.A. He started the firm in 1971.
Mr. Lipman's practice presently focuses on personal injury, medical
negligence and litigation matters. In the personal injury arena,
he is widely regarded throughout the state as one of the top personal
injury attorneys. He regularly handles cases on behalf of plaintiffs
catastrophically injured in negligence cases.
Mr. Lipman's medical negligence practice has been particularly
active in the past twenty years. Mr. Lipman long held the record
for the largest medical malpractice jury verdict in Maine.
Mr. Lipman has been a featured speaker for the American Trial Lawyers
Seminar in New Orleans on 'Rising Stars.' He has also lectured extensively
in the State of Maine and nationally for the Maine Trial Lawyers,
the American Trial Lawyers Associations and Maine Bar Association.
Mr. Lipman is listed in the current issue of Best
Lawyers in America.
Mr. Lipman has also authored a chapter entitled "Medical and
Special Damages" in the Association of Trial Lawyers of America's
text, Litigation of Tort Cases.
Mr. Lipman has also been active in politics. He served two terms
in the Maine Legislature and ran for Governor in the Republican
Primary in 1990.
Mr. Lipman has three children: a son, Michael Lipman, who owns
and runs a ticket brokerage business; a daughter, Karen (Lipman)
Boston, a partner at Lipman, Katz & McKee, P.A.; and another
daughter, Dr. Jennifer Shinners, an obstetrician.
