Roger Katz and Walter McKee selected for inclusion in 2008 New England Super Lawyers magazine

Roger Katz and Walter McKee were recently selected for inclusion in 2008 New England Super Lawyers magazine. Roger was one of four attorneys in Maine listed in the area of Family Law. Walter was the only Maine attorney listed in the area of Criminal Defense. Congratulations Roger and Walt!

Walter McKee speaks at Litigation Institute

Walter McKee spoke recently at the Maine State Bar Association / Maine Trial Lawyers Association's Litigation Institute in Augusta. The Litigation Institute is held every five years to teach litigation skills to attorneys in Maine. The faculty is comprised of the state's top plaintiff's and defense litigators. Walter spoke on the issue of accident reconstructionists and their use in automobile collision cases. Walter serves on the MTLA Board and is a regular speaker at seminars throughout the state each year on civil and criminal litigation.

#1 in Capital Area for the EIGHTH straight year!

Lipman Katz & McKee has once again been voted Greater Augusta's Best Attorneys by an independent survey conducted by Market Surveys of America. The survey compiled votes from around the capital area. Lipman Katz & McKee won the same award in the competition's inaugural year, 2001, as well as in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Walter McKee completes 2-year term as president of MACDL
Walter McKee completed a 2-year term as president of the Maine Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (MACDL) this summer. Walter led the statewide group of criminal defense attorneys through a legislative funding crisis, overreaching criminal code proposed changes and countless meeting with judicial branch officials addressing issues of importance to the criminal justice process. Walter will continue to serve as chair of the Legislative Committee and testify before the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee as well as the Judiciary Committee on criminal justice matters as he has for the past 6 years.

Walter McKee confirmed as Commissioner on Ethics Commission

Walter McKee was recently nominated by Governor Baldacci and confirmed by the Maine Senate to serve as Commissioner on the Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices. Walter will serve a 3-year term on the Commission which addresses ethical issues as they affect government service as well as campaign and election laws including Maine's Clean Elections Act. At Walter's confirmation hearing he was praised as someone who was one of the state's "most talented and skilled attorneys" who was "respected by judges and his colleagues" for being someone "absolutely by the book" and "a straight shooter." Walter's nomination was supported by Democrats and Republicans alike and his confirmation was recommended to the full Senate by a 7-0 vote.
